The situation
Chemical handling and transport regulations vary by region and change over time — what's compliant in one jurisdiction can be a violation in another. The client needed a system that could evaluate a shipment or process against the right regulation set automatically, rather than relying on manual compliance review.
What we were solving for
Every region has its own hazard classifications, transport restrictions, and safety thresholds. Getting this wrong isn't a cosmetic bug — it's a compliance and safety failure, so the logic had to be transparent, testable, and easy for a domain expert to audit.
What we built
We built a dynamic policy engine that evaluates shipments and processes against configurable, region-specific rule sets covering hazard classification, transport restrictions, and safety thresholds — designed so compliance staff, not just engineers, could review and update the rules as regulations change.
